PADI Dive professional - are you? Be professional. Scuba diving as a recreation and also an
employment opportunity has never been so popular. As the amount of would be
divers and snorkelers cross over to become avid underwater adventurers there is
an increase in the demand for good scuba dive instructors and divemasters. Being in the leisure industry often
allows the weaker minded to believe that what we do is not really work. Scuba
diving within the industry is as much a job and career path as engineering,
logistics, sales and marketing or accounting – if you run or work within a
successful dive operation then most of these areas are actually covered. Diving
is a business. The demand for good dive instructors has
never been so high, but again let me place the emphasis on GOOD. We may be in the leisure industry but
this does not mean that we’ll get paid for laying on a beach all day topping up the tan. With each IDC and IE (Instructor
Examination) that occurs world wide there are many newly certified PADI dive instructors and all fighting for the same dive job vacancies. It can be
a difficult business to enter if you make it this way for your self. There are 3
main factors with equal importance that will assist you as a professional diver
to get your “fins” in the door. Firstly, be presentable. You will be
dealing with the lone traveler to the family on holiday. The hippy traveler will
just love the scuba dive instruction and experience and not judge you for not
having piercings all over your face or wearing smart clothes. The family on
holiday, on the other hand would object to their son or daughter being taught by
a rather “wayward” sole. This does not mean to lose your individuality but just to be sensible and presentable with it. Secondly, be professional! It’s all
very well looking the part but unless you can perform the duties, be punctual
and display a mentor personality with good credibility with your students. Last but certainly not least – good
training is a main factor. As mentioned; once you become a dive instructor, imagine
realistically that so do 500 other guys and gals worldwide with a view to
working within the dive industry. Learn in Asia Scuba Internships aim to the
