*NEWS* Photos Must See!

Photos of the Interns during the Thai New Year 2004 Thailand is such a tranquil place where the sun shines always and the people smile. Thai people are most relaxed until...it comes to the New Year or Songkran. The Thai New Year lasts from the 13th - 19th April with the 14th or 15th actually being New Year (dependant of Lunar calendar) but the last of the festivities on the 19th - in Pattaya. Dating back hundreds of years the festival used to be a gentle sprinkling of water on family friends and passers by to show respect (especially to elders) and also welcome a break from the heat of the peak of the hot season and imminent rains after the dry season. It has now turned into a free-for-all water fight. The photos below will give you a slight indication of the sort of revelry that only the Thais could conjure up. The Songkran festival is not to all tastes as it lasts for a week. Too much for me but I do enjoy at least on day. As all of the diving "life" interns said...it just has to be experienced. And they thought that they'd have a dry day away from the scuba diving - how very wrong they were! Enjoy - you might see it for real next year.
