Sabang, Philippines Scuba Dive Sites

Frog Fish Sabang Philippines - Scuba Diving Trip 2004One really beautiful touch of scuba diving in Sabang, Puerto Gallera, Philippines is that there is not a dive site that is more than 10 minutes away. It is so laid back with a shore visit in-between each dive allowing you to relax. When the next dive time comes, simply walk to the boat (rib) and your equipment will be passed to you. A couple of minutes later at the dive site, put your dive equipment on and then you are ready for the next dive.

There is no swimming against the currents, as if you experience one - go literally with the flow and when you surface the small boat will be there to pick you up, everytime.

Dive Sites:

  • Canyons (Depth - 30m) A site where you'll encounter the biggest fishes in Puerto GalleraIsland Paradise Philippines Dive Trip 2004 from huge giant Grouper to large schools of snapper, emperors, sweetlips, barracudas, jacks, trevally and occasional sharks that make this an exciting dive. Wonderful topography. The Canyons are prone to strong currents - it can be a washing machine at times.
  • Shark Caves (Depth 27m) A large overhang, which is a favorite spot for white-tip reef sharks to rest during the day.
  • Atoll (Depth 35m) A pinnacle emerging from the depth of a 110 feet up to 60 feet is the habitat of rich marine life.
  • Hole in the Wall (Depth 12m) A place to see the tremendous variety of corals which Puerto Galera has to offer where underwater photographers are fascinated.
  • Pink Wall (Depth 12m) Several small walls which are covered with corals that come in hues of pink, orange and red.
  • Monkey Wreck (Depth 45m) A 120 foot long vessel sitting at the bottom of a steep slope which starts to descend from 25 feet.
  • Japanese Wreck (Depth 42m) you will see the remains of an old wreck and two huge moray eels, also the home of schools of sweet lips.
  • Sinandigan Wall (Down to Depth 40m) A perfect multi-level dive along a wall, a place where you see most of the species of infamous subject for underwater photographers the "Nudibranchs". Plenty of the larger fish too.
  • Coral Cove Dive (Depth 25m) One of our most beautiful dive sites where you can see a large number of Puerto Gallera's 500 different soft corals giant clams.
  • Boulders (Depth 25m) Large rocks from a bizarre underwater world where divers wonder about nature.
  • Light House Point (Depth 15m) A vast area covered by table corals. The place is considered a paradise for photographers.
  • Monkey Beach (Depth 20m) One of the most beautiful multi-level dive sites of the Puerto Gallera area. Nice relaxed dive - ideal for beginners.
  • Sabang Point (Depth 25m) A good wall dropping down to 25, with stony corals, soft corals, many fish and unusual invertebrates such as large cuttlefish and octopus. A ridge rising to 5m is covered with more crinoids that are colourful and corals. This makes a very pleasant night dive.
  • Coral Garden (Depth 12m) At this location we spend up to 90 minutes under water, because it is the most breathtaking encounter with the underwater world.
  • Kilima Drift (Depth 15m) In Puerto Gallera, you have the chance to enjoy the currents. The entire area, along with its long coasts, is perfect for an exhilarating drift dive.
  • Verde Island Drop-off (Depth 40m ) A pinnacle protruding the surface on the east tip of Verde Is. A vertical reef where you can circle on slack high. It is rich in coral life schools of pelagic and chance to see sea snakes and frogfish. Always take note of the underwater current - can be tricky.
  • Manila Channel (Depth 18m) Two small walls starting at 3m and dropping down to 18m with a lot of hard corals and rich of diverse fish life.
  • St. Christopher Wreck (Depth 24m) A 20m wooden hull liveaboard boat sunk in 1995. Sometimes called the "Ambulance Wreck" because of its white body paint and stripes. It has become a residence of some large snappers. Way back to shallow portion keep your eyes open for a camouflaged Harlequin Ghost Pipefish hiding behind a fan coral. If the current catches you - you will end up on the speedboat in 12m. This little wreck is a real favorite since giant frogfish reside here, watching large numbers of Sergeant-Majors defend their purple eggs from opportunistic butterfly fish and wrasses.
  • Sabang Ship Wreck (Depth 18m) A wooden Chinese fishing junk sunk in 1993, directly on the house reef which has turned  into residence of friendly Batfish and Surgeon fish and other reef dwellers. Surrounded by sand inhabited by stargazers and flounders. A popular site for underwater photographers and an excellent night dive.
  • Batangas Channel (Depth 18m) A site that offers unusual creatures such as sponges, coral formations, eels, and even giant clams at 6m depth at entry point.
  • Dungon Wall (Depth 24m) A nice multi level dive from the bottom 27m up to 12m where it extends into the bay, lots of corals and various reef fishes. Watch-out for the Trigger fishes during egg laying season.
