Mermaids Dive Center Pattaya, have the perfect conditions at certain dive sites locally for the PADI Search and Recovery specialty training. In areas where we have some strong currents and indeed lower visibility it is a seriously challenging course and worthy to take you better your dive skills in general. To train in challenging conditions makes you a much better diver overall and allow you to cope on harsher dives.

Why take the PADI Search and Recovery diver training?

Have you or a dive buddy ever dropped something overboard into the water? Are you looking for lost treasure? (I suppose we all are). The PADI Search and Recovery Diver Specialty course will teach you effective ways to find objects underwater and bring them to the surface safely. Small, large or just awkward – there is a way to bring them up – but it does take certain skills. Locate and lift!

Search Patterns also feature highly pin the PADI Rescue Diver training. Being able to find things underwater is a highly underrated skill.

What do I need to start the Search and Recovery training?

  •  Certified PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or Junior Advanced Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization) OR
  •  PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver AND PADI Underwater Navigation certifications (or qualifying certification from another organization).
  •  Be a minimum age of 12 years old.
  • Possess the PADI Search and Recovery manual available at Mermaids.
What will the PADI S and R teach me?

You’ll learn search and recovery techniques such as Dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and potential problems. You’ll also cover limited visibility, search patterns and safe object recovery using lift devices. You’ll learn how to work out how much lift is required to bring an object to the surface safely without flying to the surface with it – trust me – it takes some skill and that’s where the training comes in.

How long will it take?

  •  Recommended Course Hours: 24 hours.
  •  Minimum Open Water Training: four dives over two days.
Where can I go from here?

Your Adventures In Diving Search and Recovery Adventure Dive may count toward this Specialty certification at instructor discretion. This specialty can also be used as one of five Specialty certifications required for your Master Scuba Diver certification.
