Michael Nichols Memorial Treasure Hunt Since 1994 Mermaids Dive Career Development
Center Pattaya, Thailand has held an annual underwater Treasure Hunt that has
become quite an event. This note on the Mermaids calen As of this year the Treasure Hunt is a Memorial for a very good diver and friend of Mermaids that passed away at the beginning of 2006. Michael Nichols of the US was a very popular dive intern whom had completed his OWSI internship and was progressing through the MSDT program. He had many friends and dive buddies that trained, studied and taught alongside him. Michael passed away in a traffic accident that left all that knew him very saddened. Michael had a passion for life and scuba that shined through very hard. In the picture to the right you see Michael performing a rescue scenario. Michael is sadly missed but gladly remembered by all of those that knew him here. Mermaids now remember Michael through an event that he enjoyed thoroughly in 2005. When and where is the big event? Nichols Memorial Treasure Hunt will be held on November 25th and
26th at "The Mystery Spot" located somewhere west of Pattaya and east
of What kind of treasure is down there?
How does it work? We've discovered 50 numbered Ancient Chinese Vases at 2 sites at "The Mystery Spot". On Saturday the 25th we'll dive Site "A" in the morning, and Site "B" in the afternoon. Saturday night will be a prize drawing at the Captain's Corner Restaurant. On Sunday we will re-visit both sites to find all the remaining prizes. The Sunday drawing will be done at a "Barbecue Party" upon return. Diver prizes can also be found in shallow water and on the beach or boat for skin divers. See

Memorial Treasure Hunt took place on the 25th and 26th of
November. This the 13th annual Treasure Hunt for Mermaid's was very special. Prizes came from a whole host of sponsors with everything from underwater torches, dinners, mask and fins, cameras, dive manuals, back packs, CD manuals, Similan Live Aboard trips, hotel vouchers, bungee jumps, wetsuits, drinks vouchers, bags, portable showers, tailored trousers and shirts to trips to other provinces...Really as very special set of prizes indeed. Day one produced 2 grand prize winners. Well done to Erik for finding the regulator, and Kazia on finding the Similans trip live-aboard.
