PADI Open Water Diver Training
Scuba diving certification begins here. Start with PADI’s online eLearning course. Move to the pool and practice your new skills. Then experience four open water (ocean/lake) dives.
If you’ve always wanted scuba dive, maybe inspired by TV or James Bond movies. Maybe TV Blue Planet has shown you of the beauty under the surface. Divers get to experience an entirely new world over non-divers. No matter where you travel, if there’s water – there might be diving.
The PADI Open Water diver training is where it starts. Get your scuba diving certification as a PADI Open Water Diver and start diving the world. The PADI Open Water is the most widely internationally recognized scuba certification available – you’re joining one big club of diving enthusiasts! Millions of people have learned to scuba dive and gone on to discover the wonders of the aquatic world through the PADI O/W course. To enroll in a PADI Open Water Diver course (or Junior Open Water Diver course), you must be 10 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required.
The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:
- Knowledge Development ( online, independent study or in a classroom) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
- Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills
- Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore!
- You may be able to get college credit for the Open Water Diver course.
At the end of your training you will be a qualified diver with certification card to prove it. A real diver – imagine that!
In the PADI Open Water Diver training, you learn to use basic scuba gear, including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device and a tank. The equipment you wear varies, depending upon on your comfort and body shape, however, we have equipemnt for all shapes and sizes. All of the diving equipment required for the Open Water training is included within the cost of the course.
What’s involved in the open water training?
- 4 days training
- 2 days Open Ocean / 2 days classroom and swimming pool*
- 5 Open Water dives
* Possibly reduced to 1 day pool and classroom if you have taken the self study E-Learning option.
What ever is booked we will not rush you through any diving skills. If you are not ready for the ocean then we spend more time in the pool. The more confident that we have you in the pool performing the skills makes it a doddle in the ocean.

- Open Water Diver Manual and Open Water Diver Video (a book and DVD package).
Drop me a line and we can look to get your materials to you. You can then self study a little and start reading the book and watching the video. Your Mermaids Instructor will schedule time with you to check your progress and make sure you understand important scuba diving information. During the training the academics are constantly refered to in order to enforce all that has been studied.
